JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SUMMIT HOSTS ITS “LITTLE LEAGUERS” EVENT

League Members Invite Community Families to an Event Aimed to Educate

Children on Avoiding, and Dealing with, Bullying

WHAT:            The Junior League of Summit will host, as part of its  Generation Text

initiative, an event allowing local children to interact with one another,

create items to be donated to locally hospitalized children; participate in

a children’s yoga class; and watch a performance of Kids on the Block.

WHEN:            February 5, 2011

                       9.30 AM – 11.30 AM

WHERE:          Central Presbyterian Church, Summit, New Jersey

WHY:              The League will provide a special performance of Kids on the Block that

focuses on bullying. The performance, targeted to second and third

graders, is set to begin at 10.30 AM. Throughout the event, children of

all ages will be invited to create bag puppets to be donated to the

Pediatrics Unit at Overlook Hospital and develop Valentine’s Day goody

bags to be donated to the Summit Oaks Hospital. The children’s yoga

class will focus on poses and breath work to help the children with self

esteem and confidence and deal with bullying. The League believes that

education is a key to helping children avoid and deal with social bullying.

Moreover, the League is thrilled to offer young children the opportunity to

participate in community service, and understand the reward of helping

others, at such a young age.
